How can I optimize my Windows computer and software to work best with SWC?
Check your display settings. We recommend a display resolution of at least 800x600 pixels (1024x768 is recommended) and 16 bit depth. You can change your display settings by right-clicking on the desktop and choosing Properties from the pop-up menu. Click the Settings tab in the Display Properties dialog box. If the setting indicated under Screen area is less than 800x600 pixels, move the sliders toward More until the resolution meets our minimum requirements. Colors should be set to High Color (16 bit). To implement these settings, click OK.
How can I optimize my Mac OS computer and software to work best with SWC?
Check your monitor settings: Choose Control Panels-> Monitors from the Apple Menu. Set the Resolution to at least 800x600. Set the Color Depth to Thousands (Macintosh G4 users should use Millions) NOTE: Some computers do not support large screen sizes with higher color settings. In this case, try reducing your Color setting to 256. This will give you larger screen size options.
How do I get the most out of the Interactive Map?
Tool bar icons from left to right
The Zoom In button enables a red box with which the user can define an area of the Map Window to be enlarged or while this button is selected you can click the map to zoom in on the current view by a factor of two.
The Zoom Out button enables a red box with which the user can define an area of the Map Window to be decreased or while this button is selected you can click the map to zoom out on the current view by a factor of two.
The Pan button allows the user to re-center the map to any point clicked upon.
The Measure button enables a target icon from which to the cursor the distance is visible above the tool bar.
The Full zoom button returns the map to full view zoom out when clicked.
The Help button opens a small help window that answers some frequently asked questions.
Why are there different icons on the map?
The different icons on the map represent where there is a shipwreck. The yellow icon represents any vessel profile. The diver down icon represents a vessel profile with video. Hovering your cursor over an icon will list the vessel name or names for that area. When you hold your cursor over a densely populated area we advise zooming in to see additional vessels. Click on the vessel name to view its entire profile.
Enter search criteria in one or all of the desired fields. Click search. The results will show up on the map and list beneath the tool bar.
Yes you can submit a shipwreck! Click the Submit Shipwreck Information button located beneath the search fields. Fill out the form the best you can; the more information you give us the faster it will get placed on the map. Latitude and longitude do not have to be exact. If you want to add information to a Shipwreck already on the map use the same form; just make sure to include the name of the shipwreck.
